Elementary Team Kim Benvegna
Kim Benvegna was born and raised in the Republic of South Africa and officially settled in New York City in 2004, beginning her career in education the following September. Since then, she has worked in two independent schools; the latter being a Montessori-inspired school in which her interest in the philosophy first began to grow. As Kim often says, the Montessori philosophy found her rather than her finding it, and she is delighted that it did.
Kim currently holds both a Master of Science Degree in Education (having specialized in reading and mathematics education for students from Kindergarten through Grade 5). She also earned a Montessori diploma in Lower Elementary Education and is delighted to be working in an environment where Maria Montessori’s philosophy is truly taught in its purest form. At this time, Kim is thrilled to join the team at Lefferts Gardens Montessori School and bring her wealth of knowledge in curriculum and child development to her new role. As an educator who truly believes in teaching the whole child – body, mind, and spirit - she is also very much looking forward to bringing her interests in mindfulness and yoga to the classroom, together with her passion for the humanities, true love of well-written children’s literature, and experience in Project-Based Learning and Backward Design. |
